We have connected physical education and language in small sided games. We make it as warm up - games. At the moment I have tried the exercises described below, with some of my classes.
Letter-orientering.
The students have made an orienteering course on the schoolyard. One letter, at each control. When they have completed the course, they have 5 minutes to create so many words as possible with the letters they have found. They create words in their foreign language, spanish, german or french.
Letter- shuttle run (create words)
The class is divided in to different groups depend on which modern foreign language they read. One german group, one french group and so on.
Every group competes in a shuttle run. The first person in the team runs to the end of the hall, chooses one letter and runs back to the team. Next person starts running and takes another letter.
Every team collect letters for 2 minutes. Then every team has to create as many words they can with their letters. The german group create german words and so on.
Strength - exercises
Together with the MFL teachers at our school, I have made instructions in different language to describe different type of strength exercises. Together with a picture on the exercise, the instructions are written in german, french and spanish on the frontpage. You can read the description of the exercise in english or Swedish in the attachment below.
Others
Sometimes I also try to connect language and physical education
in games like "hide and seek". Instead of always counting in swedish, we sometimes try to count in for example german (einz, zwei, drei......)
